I think most of us believe that the Cleveland Indians are a contending team and that they definitely are better than how they played against the Houston Astros. Houston, the defending World Series champs, is not a team to take lightly. Their batters are dangerous, starters nearly unhittable, and bullpen has quality arms. Coming into the ALDS we already had an uphill battle facing them. Still, we’re not some amateur club that’s never played baseball before. We have our own dangerous batters, unhittable starters, and quality arms in the bullpen. On paper, we should match with any team in the MLB.
Perhaps it was the fact that we breezed through a rebuilding division that punched our ticket to the playoffs. Maybe we came into the series too lackadaisical thinking that we had time to settle into our playoff mode. Or maybe we were just beat, plain and simple. Anyway you slice it, it suuuuuucks to have the season end like this. We did not seem competitive enough. It seemed like the Indians played with no sense of urgency and got lazy with simple baseball fundamentals. Our pitchers made mistakes, some of our batters were nowhere to be found, and it seemed like we were outmatched by Houston at every turn.
We will be back in the playoffs more than likely. We’ll have some new faces on the roster but our deadly core of bats and arms will still be here. The AL Central is still ours and I don’t expect to lose our anaconda grip on it anytime soon. All I know is this… we cannot come into a series like we did this year. Can’t be flat like we were. I know our team is strong enough to compete for a championship, despite the outcome of this season. It just sucks to have to wait a year to get back to this spot. Enjoy the offseason.
